Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in his recent biopic revealed he never expected that one day India would face defeat at the hands of Bangladesh. He also accused the then Indian coach Greg Chappell for deliberately sabotaging India’s campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in West Indies.

Prior to the start of the tournament, former Indian coach Greg Chappell forced Sachin Tendulkar to bat at no. 4 and changed the entire batting line-up of the team. Sachin also accused that Chappell created unrest within the team with some of his unnecessary decisions.

Sachin Tendulkar mentioned in the documentary that he also intimated BCCI about the kind of environment within the team. Further, Tendulkar disclosed that many players in the squad wept in the washroom after they were knocked out from the tournament after their defeat against Sri Lanka.

Sachin’s Claims

“A number of senior players disagreed with the manner in which Chappel was handling our side. Just before a month from the World Cup, he made drastic changes in the batting order that affected everyone in the side. And, they were not needed. Other teams had been practicing according to their plans and strategies for the past one year then. But we were still experimenting with our side,” narrated the Maestro according to his biopic, ‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams’

“We were there as a team, but weren’t a team. I had even told a Board official that the team wasn’t in great shape. I had never thought that we could lose a match against Bangladesh” added the 44-year. He also confessed that the phase was one of the darkest in his cricketing career as he did not get out of his residence for days at a stretch after coming back from West Indies. He also claimed that the Indian cricket team was treated as ‘criminals’ after they returned back home from their disappointing campaign.
