Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, on Saturday (March 27), announced he has tested positive for COVID-19. The former India batsman announced the news on Twitter as he urged his fans and followers to take care. The development comes just days after Tendulkar led India Legends to victory in the recently-concluded Road Safety World Series.

In the final, India Legends beat Sri Lanka Legends to lay their hands on the trophy. The final took place last Sunday. Tendulkar led India Legends from the very front and finished the competition as the team’s highest run-scorer. In seven games, the right-handed batsman scored 233 runs at an average of almost 39.

Tendulkar took to Twitter to confirm the news of his diagnosis. He started by pointing out that he had been taking all the precautions to keep the dreaded virus at bay. Tendulkar also stated that he was experiencing mild symptoms before being tested positive. The legendary batsman further stated that the other members of his family have tested negative.

“I have been testing myself and taking all the recommended precautions to ensure Covid is kept at bay. However, I’ve tested positive today following mild symptoms. All others at home have tested negative,” wrote Tendulkar.

Tendulkar said that he has quarantined himself at his home and is following all the necessary protocols, writing: “I’ve quarantined myself at home and am following all the necessary protocols as advised by my doctors. I want to thank all the healthcare professionals who are supporting me and many others across the country. Take care all of you.”

Sachin Tendulkar not the first

Sachin Tendulkar is not the first high-profile name from Indian cricket to test positive for COVID-19. Last year, Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaekwad were among the 13 CSK squad members who had contracted the virus. India batsman Karun Nair had tested positive too while former India cricketer Chetan Chauhan tragically passed away after contracting the virus.

Talking about Tendulkar, he is the most decorated batsman in the history of the game. He scored the most number of runs in the longest format of the game, amassing 15,921 runs. Along the way, Tendulkar scored 51 Test centuries, most by any player. In ODIs too, he holds the record for scoring most runs (18,426) and most centuries (49).
