Rajya Sabha lawmaker and former Indian cricket team skipper Sachin Tendulkar has selected Donja, a village in the vast labyrinth of Maharashtra’s Osmanabad district for development under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna. This scheme was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ruled that each member of the Rajya Sabha must select one or two villages from his or her constituency and make a model village or city out of it.

“We are happy that Sachin Tendulkar has picked Donja. We are sure this will inspire other villages in the region to emulate this model of development,” Osmanabad Zilla Parishad CEO Anand Rayate said.

The Adarsh Gram Yojna is a scheme that allows politicians or perhaps even members of the Rajya Sabha to pick and choose a village and develop it including social and cultural development and spread motivation among the people on the social mobilization of the village community. Osmanabad, the district which houses the Donja village has experienced a terrible drought in the past few years, something that has led to farmer suicide of late as well.

This gesture from the Tendulkar also witnesses the second time the Indian legend is doing something like this.

At the moment, Sachin Tendulkar is in Rio as he is fulfilling his ambassadorship for the 2016 edition of the Olympic Games. Tendulkar has motivated athletes from the Indian contingent who have been a major part of the finals and have made their respective countries proud.
