The day 27th of August signifies the birthday of one of the greatest batsmen cricket has ever seen, Don Bradman. Many modern greats of the game have grown up idolizing the Aussie great. One of them is the highest run scorer in Cricket presently, Sachin Tendulkar. Bradman himself claimed years ago about the young Mumbaikar’s technique resembled that of him.
The chain of idolization did not stop with the Little Master. During the initial years of Sehwag, looking at the technique and mannerism of the Najafgarh batsman, many hailed him as the carbon copy of Sachin. Virender Sehwag still takes it as a compliment and in his pride, being compared to the great Sachin Tendulkar.
It is still a matter of great travesty that Bradman, who carried a stupendous average of over 100 throughout his career, was dismissed for a duck in his last innings and ended up with an average of 99.94, only four runs shy of obtaining a career average of 100.
For a majority of the 20th century, he held the record for most number of centuries in Test Cricket. He scored a whopping 29 Test centuries and 12 double century. His tally of double centuries still remains unprecedented. The only batsman who came close to his tally is Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara with 11 doubles in his career.
Virender Sehwag, who is a renowned celebrity across social media, took to Twitter to celebrate Bradman Jayanti by posting a photo of Aussie great and captioning, “A day for every cricket lover to remember Sir Don Bradman, the greatest batsman of all times on his birth anniversary. #BradmanJayanti”
He then got carried away and humorously broke down the name into various syllables. “Pic 1- Don Pic 2- Bread Pic 3- Man. Hpy Birthday Don Bradman, the greatest that could ever have been #BradmanJayanti” captioned his other post. “To the one and only…. Happy Birthday to Sir Donald Bradman,” wished Sachin Tendulkar while posting a picture of himself and Don back in the late 90s.
