Ever since the Pulwama terror attacks, the relations between India and Pakistan have turned bitter again. A lot of people want the Men in Blue to take a strong stance on the subject and not compete with Pakistan at any level. With the World Cup clash between both the rivals on 16th June, there have been calls for India to boycott the game.

Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar were of the opinion that they would rather not concede two points against Pakistan by boycotting it. Both received a lot of flak for not opposing it. Now Sourav Ganguly also offered his perspective. Named as the Indian ambassador of Street Child Cricket World Cup 2019, the former Indian captain stated that it shouldn’t be an issue if India doesn’t play a game.

It shouldn’t be an issue

Sourav Ganguly felt that India’s primary concern was winning the World Cup. Since all the teams are slated to face each other, he felt that the boycott wouldn’t affect India’s chances in the tournament. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President also termed India as favourites for the World Cup.

“He wants two points against Pakistan, I want the World Cup. Whichever way you look at it. This is a 10 team World Cup and each team plays matches against every other team. If India doesn’t play a match in the World Cup, it won’t be an issue.” Ganguly was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Recently, when asked whether the CAB is also thinking on removing the portraits of the ex-Pakistan players in protest of Pulwama attack, the Prince of Kolkata clarified that they are yet to take a call on the matter. It remains to be seen if India will play against Pakistan in the World Cup as Ganguly felt the final decision will be taken by the Government.
