Salman Butt confesses his involvement in Spot-Fixing, Says Pakistan Cricket Board: Much has been said and discussed about the involvement of Salman Butt in Spot-Fixing. Of late, in a statement made by Pakistan Cricket Board, it is mentioned that Salman Butt has confessed his role and active involvement in the spot-fixing issue that arose in August, 2010 during a test match against England.

The former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt also faced a minimum ban of five years, alongside two other players owing to their deliberate involvement in arranging no-balls in a Test match against England. As a result, he was banished from international cricket and at the moment he is anticipating for a potential return to International Cricketing sphere.

The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Shaharyar Khan said that Butt has said a confessional statement for the same. Shaharyar also added, “Butt had not specifically confessed to spot-fixing, so we gave him a statement to sign and he has specifically confessed to spot-fixing.”

The cricketer also commented about his role in spot fixing to the media in July, 2013 but PCB rejected it as being some sort of a ‘general confession’.

It is also being said that the confessional statement has been sent to the Anti Corruption and Safety Unit of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Alongside Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were also banned from international cricket due to their involvement in fixing spots of the game which not only caused tremors in their careers but also shook the cricketing world. They were also being jailed for the same along with their agent, Mazhar Majeed in the UK in 2011.

In January, a revised anti-corruption code was being issued by the ICC which stated that banned players may return to domestic cricket a few months before their bans expire. This allowed Amir to return to cricket in February this year. Their bans would be lifted on 1st September, 2015.

Butt confirmed of his signed confession and said that he had to do it for his return to domestic cricket. He said, “I have signed a confession letter because I want to play domestic cricket. I have offers from a few teams to play the forthcoming season.”

Also, on being asked about the prospects for his international return, Butt had an optimistic reply. The former Pakistani skipper said, “Why not? If my form and fitness impress selectors then I look forward to playing international cricket.”
