Earlier in January, Rory Burns got injured while playing football during England’s ongoing tour of South Africa. It rang the alarm bells in the Three Lions camp and then the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) banned football in warm-up sessions. Burns sustained a ligament damage and it ruled the left-hander out of the series. Back in 2018, Jonny Bairstow also got injured, playing football.

Ashley Giles, the director of men’s cricket, has always been against the practice. During his stint with Lancashire and Worcestershire, he banned football. However, after Burns succumbed to the injury, Giles along with head coach Chris Silverwood made the decision. In the meantime, fast bowler Graham Onions took it as a chance to troll young all-rounder Sam Curran.

Onions pokes fun at Curran

Curran is current playing in the Test series against the Proteas. To poke fun at Curran, Onions posted a picture where the former was seen along with a lion. Onions said that he would rather be on the field that trying his luck out with a lion.

He captioned the picture and wrote, “ECB-Strictly no football in warmups, to dangerous but on your days of it’s fine to have a role around with a lion. Call me a wimp but I’d be safe on the other side of the fence,”

Curran didn’t miss out on returning Onions the favour. He shared a picture where Onions was seen sitting with a lion. He captioned it and wrote, “Fair Point,”

Here is Sam Curran’s tweet

Curran has been an integral part of the Test squad ever since he made his debut for the Brits way back in May 2018. A couple of months later, he tormented the Indian team, both with bat and ball. Not only did he wreak havoc with his swing, but also wielded the willow to good effect lower down the order. Curran hasn’t looked back and is focussing on cementing his place in the national team.

In the land of the Proteas, Curran hasn’t flattered to deceive. In three matches, the Young Turk from Surrey has nine wickets to his name. It also includes a four-wicket haul. With the bat in hand, he has 95 runs at an average of 19 with a top score of 44, numbers which aren’t meagre by any means.
