Indian tennis star Sania Mirza showered praise on the Indian women’s team and skipper Mithali Raj for their fairytale journey in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup. Mirza labelled Mithali as a perfect icon for the sport and appreciated the fact that she has been performing at her best for a long period of time.

Sania Mirza also hoped that the team continues to perform like they are doing. She added that the girls thoroughly deserve all the applause that they got.

What Sania Mirza said:

“Mithali (Raj) has been performing amazingly for many years; she is an incredible ambassador for the game of cricket.” said Sania Mirza. “I really hope this appreciation that all the girls are getting continues because they deserve it.” she added.

Sania Mirza took part in the recently concluded Wimbledon, which is the biggest event in the world of Tennis. She played the doubles category but unfortunately for Mirza, her journey ended in the third round when she faced former partner Martina Hingis and Chan Yung-Jan.

Sania Mirza has been a close follower of the game of cricket and she is also married to active Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. However, this is not the first time Mirza has given Mithali Raj a pat on her back. It was not too long ago when Mithali Raj gave an appropriate reply to a journalist when asked about her favourite men’s cricketer.

As an answer to this question, the women’s team skipper asked the journalist to go and ask the men’s team the name of their favourite cricketer in the women’s circuit. The answer was hailed by many across all social media platforms and one of them to congratulate the skipper was none other than Sania Mirza.

India’s journey in the Women’s World Cup could not end on a high as they failed to cross the final hurdle against hosts England. However, their performance throughout the tournament was pretty dominant and it has been a tournament to cherish for the girls.
