Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has recently expressed his happiness over the recent ODI form of Mohammed Shami. Shami had seen himself get sidelined from the scheme of things in white ball cricket over the last year or so. But now, the veteran pacer has translated his good form in Test cricket to the white ball action. His heroics in the first ODI against New Zealand helped India draw first blood in the 5-match series.

His performance of 3/19 fetched him the Player of the Match award as well. After the game, the pundits hailed him for his impeccable lengths. Now, as per the recent quotes in ESPNcricinfo, Sanjay Manjrekar has also joined the list of people hailing the pacer.

Manjrekar noted that people had almost forgotten about the weak links in Indian bowling amidst the number 4 conundrum in the batting department. Now, with Shami back in form, the former cricketer believes that the focus can shift back to the middle-order fragility, as the bowling department seems to be fit. Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Mohammed Shami look like a set trio for World Cup 2019.

“We were getting obsessed with that middle -order fragility and trying to find solutions for that. people took their eye off from the seam bowling department because Bumrah is there as one constant leading the attack. Bhuvneshwar Kumar because of his injuries was not quite 100 percent,” Sanjay Manjrekar quoted.

Shami has been a revelation

Commenting further on the same note, Sanjay Manjrekar remarked that for a brief while, team India’s bowling did look a little bleak with a weak link in picture. The team management tried bowlers like Khaleel Ahmed and Mohammad Siraj. But the youngsters could not come up with consistent performances. Now, with Shami back in the frame of things, the team looks a lot more settled.

“The bowling attack looked a little with weak with experiments with Mohammad Siraj and Khaleel Ahmed, before Shami’s Test match form prompted them to play in the ODIs and he has been a revelation since then,” he added further.
