After suffering a seven-wicket defeat against Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma and Co will be aiming hard to make a comeback in the three-match series. The second T20I will be played at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Thursday, where Bangladesh will be eager to register their maiden T20 series win on the Indian soil.

The Men in Blue are expected to re-shuffle their batting line-up after a dismal performance in the first T20I against Bangladesh. Youngster Sanju Samson could pave his way to the starting squad in place of KL Rahul, who disappointed with the bat in the first T20I by scoring 15 runs off 17 deliveries.

Moreover, Samson hinted at his inclusion in the playing XI by posting a cryptic Tweet on the day of the match. “Match day…. Let’s goooooo. #stronger&stronger #SAMSON,” tweeted the wicket-keeper batsman.

Samson is also seen as a replacement for Rishabh Pant, whose position in Team India is in jeopardy due to a string of poor performances. Samson has amassed 3353 runs in 142 T20s at an average of 27.48. He had earned his maiden call-up from the Indian team in 2014 for the England tour but could not play any game. The Kerela batsman, who has played only one T20I for India in 2015 will be hoping to make an immediate impact on the international stage.

Recently, Samson paved his way into the record books. The right-hander smashed an unbeaten 212 off just 129 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to register the highest individual score in List A cricket by a wicketkeeper-batsman. Samson broke Pakistan’s Abid Ali’s record who had scored an unbeaten 208 in Pakistan’s domestic one-day competition in 2018.

‘Sanju Samson can be used as a proper batsman’

The 24-year-old was included in the 15-man India T20I squad for Bangladesh series due to his consistent performances in the domestic circuit. He is regarded as the flag-bearer for Kerela’s cricket scenario because of his reliable display in recent times.

“Sanju Samson has been included as a proper batsman, Pant will continue as wicketkeeper. Sanju’s problem 3-4 years back was inconsistency. Now he has improved. He had a fantastic A series and wonderful Vijay Hazare. We consider him as a top-order batsman,” India’s chief-selector MSK Prasad had said after Samson’s inclusion in the 15-man squad.
