Sarfaraz Ahmed is a very passionate captain like Virat Kohli: Faf du Plessis

Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis is considered one of the most respected leaders the game has seen. The talismanic former captain was instrumental in South Africa winning a tough Test series Down Under in the year 2016 and a Test series win in New Zealand in 2017. Apart from being a shrewd leader, Du Plessis is also a gun player often displaying grit and determination whenever the chips are down.

The 36-year-old was last seen in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The right-hand batter was the team’s rock and often got CSK to good starts in the company of Ruturaj Gaikwad. Du Plessis will soon be seen in action in the sixth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) playing for Quetta Gladiators.

Before the tournament resumes on June 09, Du Plessis spoke about the league and young Pakistan batter Azam Khan.

“Azam Khan is a good hitter. I haven’t seen much of him since I have just played a couple of games. I think he got that one fifty there towards the end of the competition. He has definitely got a lot of power and he takes the ball on. It will be interesting to keep an eye on him to see what he does in this last leg of the tournament. He will be very driven to do well in this last leg,” Du Plessis said as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

The former South African captain also spoke about his Gladiators’ skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed’s leadership style and compared that to Virat Kohli stating the both are aggressive when it comes to captaincy.

“They [Sarfaraz Ahmed and MS Dhoni] are quite different. MS is quiet and reserved. He does most of his things instinctively on the field. Sarafraz is the opposite and almost like Virat [Kohli] in the sense where he is always talking to the players, talking to the bowlers. Always very passionate about how he captains his team and he shows it. There is no right and wrong way, they just have two different styles. He has obviously been a captain for Pakistan who has got the best out of his players. It is good because I always like playing under different leaders to see how they go about their business,” he added.

Du Plessis also concluded by saying that PSL is one of the top leagues in the world.
