Pakistan are undoubtedly ICC’s number-one ranked T20I team with Sarfaraz Ahmed being one of the reasons behind their dominating run. However, of late, the captain has had to go through a lot of stress, more so after the 0-3 whitewash at the hands of Sri Lanka at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The visitors didn’t have a number of their main players, yet Pakistan flattered to deceive.

After the national team’s exit from the World Cup before the semis, the selectors showed faith in Sarfaraz. They retained him for the ODI and T20I series versus Lanka. Even as the Men in Green came out trumps in the 50-overs format by 2-0, the shortest format turned out to be a disaster. Quite expectantly, calls of removing Sarfaraz have been doing the rounds on a frequent basis.

PML wants Sarfaraz Ahmed to be released of captaincy

Recently, Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) member Malik Zaheer Iqbal, submitted a resolution in Punjab Assembly on Thursday, October 10. As per reports in Business Recorder. The same was regarding Sarfaraz’s removal as the skipper.

The resolution stated that Sarfaraz isn’t capable of leading the national team and hence, should be removed as the captain. Rather, the leadership mantle should be handed over to someone, who is skilled and responsible, and is eligible to lead the team.

Pakistan couldn’t put up a fight in the first two T20Is and therefore lost the series there itself with one match remaining. In the dead rubber, Pakistan looked set to end with a thumping victory. But they lost their way in the middle and ended up losing the game by 13 runs.

Thereafter, Sarfaraz took accountability for the whitewash and also lamented Pakistan’s poor fielding. “When the team isn’t performing then the captain is responsible. We need to improve in all facets. If we keep dropping catches like this in the middle overs, we won’t be able to beat any team,” Sarfaraz was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.

Pakistan are next scheduled to tour Australia in November-December for three T20Is and a couple of Tests. If reports are to be believed then Sarfaraz is likely to be persisted with as the skipper in T20Is. On the other hand, Azhar Ali’s name is being contemplated as the Test captain.
