After a scintillating stint in recently concluded Champions Trophy, Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed expressed his desire to be the number one ranked team in all three formats of the game. Sarfraz & Co. received a grand welcome back home which has eventually pumped the side to do well in the future as well.

Many legendary cricketers consider this the dawn of a ‘new era’ for Pakistan and even Sarfraz believes that team will put extra efforts and try to maintain the legacy left behind. In the last year and a half, the wicketkeeper-batsman has been appointed the full-time captain in all three formats. His journey as a captain started when he took over from Shahid Afridi in T20 and Azhar Ali in ODIs. After Misbah’s retirement at the end of Pakistan’s tour of West Indies in May, he was recently appointed Test team’s captain as well.

Confident of winning future events

Sarfraz looked confident while addressing the media and said, “We will try our best to fulfill nation’s expectation by winning future events also. It will be our effort to make Pakistan the number one team in all formats of the game,” he said speaking at a reception held by the management of a local hotel here to recognize Pakistan’s historic ICC Champions Trophy win in England.”

He said that the win in the Champions Trophy was a result of the team’s hard work. “All the players worked hard and fought like a unit to emerge victorious.”

After losing against arch rivals India in the opener, not many were eyeing their place in the final. However, Pakistan played like a unit and was able to prove the predictions wrong.

When asked about their journey in CT 2017, he said, “Pakistan team failed to deliver at the start but later on it bounced back strongly and defeated world’s top side in the event to emerge victorious.”

Najam Sethi credited PSL for team’s performance

On the occasion chairman of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Najam Sethi said: “It was heartening that Pakistan’s young players played a key role in team’s win in ICC Champions Trophy. The PSL helped a lot in bringing forth young players, who were now part of the national team.”

Sethi took no short cuts to appreciate current Pakistani skipper Sarfraz. “Pakistan team captain has proved that he could lead from the front. We’ve still to go a long way to improve our ranking,” he concluded.
