All eyes were on Cheteshwar Pujara when the Indian star strode out to bad for the Royals. Much was expected from him but the Saurashtra stalwart failed to deliver on opening night. His 5 (11) looked more like his usual “Test match” knock.

Team News

Gohilwad Gladiators

The Gladiators went down to the Heroes by 19 runs in their opening fixture. With wickets falling at regular intervals, a run chase of 153 was never going to be easy for the Gladiators. Abrar Shaikh was the lone warrior with the bat while notching up 63 (41).

With the ball, there were strong performances from Kamlesh Makwana and Vihar Jadeja, with the former turning in a spell of 1/16 from his quota of four-overs.

The squad:

Kamlesh Makwana R, Kishan Parmar M, Hardik Rathod R, Vandit Jivrajani M, Chirag Sisodiya, Vihar Jadeja R, Krishnakant Pathak, Abhel Karetha M, Abrar Shaikh K, Sagar Dodia, Parswaraj Rana Y, Hetvik Kotak, Sagar Bhojani, Prashant Mandaviya, Bensiyon Songaonkar, Prashant Gohel, Parth Ankola A.

Zalawad Royals

Batting first against the Lions, the Royals never really got off the block. Had Vyas, Mankad and Chhaya not scored vital twenties, the Royals would have end up with a sub-hundred score. With clearly not enough on the board, the Royals were always waging a losing battle.

If anything, the Royals will look to count their positives. Vyas, Mankad and Chhaya will breathe with some amount of confidence going into this fixture. On the bowling front, Devang Karamta put in an economical spell while Mankad and Yadav had a wicket each to show for their efforts.

The squad:

Cheteshwar Pujara, Sheldon Jackson P, Prerak Mankad M, Samarth Vyas B, Jay Chauhan M, Sunil Yadav H, Devang Karamta D, Jyot Chhaya B, Kishan Kugasiya S, Mohsin Dodia A, Vishal Joshi, Harnish Trivedi, Tarang Chhatrola, Karan Patel K, Sachin Mevada R, Vipul Makwana, Prasham Rajdev, Aniruddh Chaturvedi.

 Top Picks

Kamlesh Makwana: Makwana is vital to Gladiators’ bowling plans. He’s able to keep things tight, bowl an economical spell and take a wicket or two

Abrar Shaikh: in the game against the Heroes, Shaikh was the only batsmen that stood up while hammering eight boundaries and a six. If only he had support from the other end, he could well have pulled off the run chase. Keep an eye out for Shaikh when submitting your Fantain XI

Devang Karamta: the Royals opening bowler showed in the first game that he can bowl with a tight line and length while stifling up the batsmen. Pujara would want Karamtar to keep repeating the act every time

Samarth Vyas: coming in at number-four, Vyas struck the ball sweetly en-route to 27 (18) with three-boundaries and a six. While his innings was unfortunately cut short, he showed everyone what he’s capable of

Kishan Parmar: Parmar is the sort of opener that most teams would like to have in this format of domestic T20 cricket. He is a neat stroke maker and he looked solid during his knock of 33 (30) which was studded with two boundaries and a six.
