Scotland bowling all-rounder Con de Lange is currently suffering from a brain tumour and the same was detected earlier this year. However, he has decided to open up on the disease after a friend of his passed away. Nevertheless, his family doesn’t want people to sympathise with them. Rather, they want positivity from the public and help Lange fight the battle.
The family has launched an appeal to support a “massively under-funded cause” in the Brain Tumour Charity. More than 8000 pounds has been raised in JustGiving appeal. Recently, Claire de Lange, the cricketer’s wife remarked about the tumultuous times they had to go through owing to her husband’s disease. Moreover, she also mentioned that ‘nobody is immune’.
Every year, 16,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour
“Con and I are usually very private people, but sometimes you need to reach out to your friends. Ten months ago our lives were turned upside down when Con was diagnosed, completely out of the blue, with a brain tumour. This year has been tough, to say the least, with an operation, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, a clinical trial, and a few hospital admissions along the way.
With the recent loss of a good friend we had made along the way, we have been inspired to raise money for this charity that needs your help. Every year, 16,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour. Nobody is immune,” Claire wrote as per reports in STV News.
Malcolm Cannon, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cricket Scotland hailed Con and vowed to support the player. “Cricket Scotland continues to support Con and his family and we have respected his wishes for confidentiality throughout this difficult period. Con has been a superb servant to the game of cricket in Scotland and is a very popular member of the squad.”
Con has played 13 ODIs and 8 T20Is for Scotland in which he has scored 158 runs to go with 24 wickets. His last international appearance came in November 2017 in an ODI against Papua New Guinea in Dubai. The 37-year-old veteran has an experience of 91 first-class, 144 List A and 36 T20 matches.
