The Scotland selectors on Wednesday announced their squad for the World Cricket League matches and Intercontinental Cup against Namibia. The I-Cup match will be hosted by Ayr Cricket Club from June 6 to 9. The WCL match will be hosted by Edinburgh’s Grange Cricket Club from 11 to 13 June. Both the tournaments are expected to attract a large number of viewers.

Preston Mommsen is one of the finest batsmen in Scotland cricket, and his inclusion in the World Cricket League fixtures, despite his international retirement in 2016, is a proof of the same. Mommsen, who still has the burning fire to be a part of the Scotland team, is now working full time but will be taking leave to represent his country one more time.

He has been training regularly with the national coaches and has been in fine form for his club side Grange. While Kyle Coetzer will captain the side, Con de Lange will act as his deputy. Stuart Whittingham will want to make the most of the opportunity after impressing is his debut against Sri Lanka and continue his good form.

Highly value I-Cup

“The team are looking forward to this block of international cricket at home throughout June. Preparation over the winter and early part of the summer has been excellent and the players are now itching to play.” Scotland Head Coach Grant Bradburn said.

He also said that they highly value the format of the I-Cup, but haven’t been able to make the most of the tournament as many of the games have been interrupted by rains.

“The I-Cup is a format we value highly, however we have had limited actual game time, as 11 of our 16 days of I-Cup cricket during this 3-year cycle, have been washed out. We look forward to our opening contest vs Namibia in Ayr, where the conditions normally offer something for every skill set.”

The I-Cup match will begin at 11 am each day while the World Cricket League matches at 10:45 am.
