Security in Bangladesh is quite a big concern: Eoin Morgan

The England cricket team was scheduled to tour Bangladesh in October this year but following a terrorist attack in Dhaka, doubts have been raised over the possibility of the tour. England limited overs skipper Eoin Morgan on Monday said that security in Bangladesh is a huge concern as the team is set to tour Bangladesh later this year.

This was after a terrorist attack in the capital city of Dhaka in Bangladesh which saw 18 foreigners. Gunmen stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery cafe in Dhaka late on Friday and it took the troops almost 12 hours to eliminate them.

Morgan said that possibly England and Wales Cricket Board could ask for matches to be moved to a neutral venue as England are scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on September 30 for a series comprising of two Tests and three one-day internationals.

“I think that could be feasible if that came to it,” said Morgan at a press conference in Southampton on Monday. “I think it (security) is quite a big concern at the moment,” said Morgan.

Morgan said that the team had left the decision to be taken by the ECB. “We’ve always left the big decisions to the ECB. They write reports, send guys out to see if it’s safe then come back to the players to see if they’re happy or unhappy. But certainly, it’s a concern at the moment.”

When queried about whether the terrorist attack would lead to cancelling the tour, he said that “if the environment is not acceptably safe or the right measures not in place, we would take the appropriate steps”.

Australia had previously cancelled the Bangladesh tour and also withdrawn their Under-19 team out of the junior World Cup ove security concerns.
