The two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) signed Chandrakant Pandit as their new head coach. Pandit will be replacing  Brendon McCullum, who was named as England’s Test team head coach recently.

To note, Pandit had a successful stint as the head coach of Madhya Pradesh during the recently completed Ranji Trophy. Under his management the team went on to win their maiden Ranji Trophy title. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan and KKR CEO Venky Mysore indulged in a light conversation related to Pandit.

“How about a good IPL contract for him? – Irfan Pathan on Twitter earlier

After Pandit won the Ranji Trophy title with Madhya Pradesh, the former left-arm pacer congratulated Pandit and also opined that he should be given an IPL contract as a head coach. “How about a good IPL contract for him?” Pathan had written on Twitter earlier. Replying to Pathan’s old tweet, Mysore on Wednesday wrote on Twitter, “We were listening to you Irfan Bhai.

Reacting to Mysore’s tweet, Pathan replied with a cheeky comment, Haha Venky bhai. Wishing you and Chandu Bhai all the luck. I’m sending you my bank details ;)”

Under the leadership of new skipper Shreyas Iyer, the Men in Purple had an average season as they failed to qualify for the playoffs. The two-time champions managed to win only six out of their 14 matches as they finished seventh on the points table ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI).

Under the new management of Pandit, the two-time champions will be looking to redeem themselves in the upcoming edition of the toughest franchise-based league. To note, he is one of the most prominent coaches in the domestic arena with six Ranji Trophy titles to his name.

“It’s a great honor and privilege to be given this responsibility. I have heard from players and others who have been associated with the Knight Riders, about the family culture, as well as the tradition of success that has been created. I am excited about the quality of the support staff and the players who are part of the setup and I am looking forward to this opportunity with all humility and positive expectations,” Pandit had said earlier on his appointment.
