Fawad Alam is doing brilliantly in the domestic circuit of Pakistan, hence it is a surprise for everyone that he is not selected by Pakistan. Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) chairman Najam Sethi did have something to say about the controversial overlooking of the left-handed batsman. Sethi said that only chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq can answer questions about Fawad’s continuous non-selection.

Sethi says that he can’t force selectors

Media asked him the reason behind the exclusion of Fawad, to this he replied that Inzamam should be asked this question rather than him. Sethi said that it is not possible for him to force selectors to pick players in the team.

“Ask Inzamam about Fawad’s non-selection. I won’t recommend on his behalf, I can recommend him but I cannot force [the selectors],” Sethi said as quoted by the Geo TV.

He further added that media should build pressure on Inzamam to include Fawad if they think the left-hander deserves a look into the team. “If you [media] feel that Fawad Alam should be selected, then [you should] pressurise Inzamam.”

Fawad Alam is in great form

Fawad Alam has been in great form as usual in the domestic tournament. Many had hoped that he would replace Younis Khan and Misbah ul Haq after their retirement but selectors have repeatedly overlooked him in spite of piling of the mountain of runs.

Fawad has been doing well in the first-class matches for many years now. He averages 56.38 in first-class cricket. Since 2000 only Steve Smith and Cheteshwar Pujara average higher than him in first-class matches. It is a pity to see a player with such good record getting overlooked by the selectors.

In the last 3 seasons, Fawad Alam has scored 2070 runs at an impressive average of 59.14.  This form, unfortunately, is not enough to warrant him a place in the Pakistan team.
