Indian women’s cricket has been producing some of the best cricketing talents across the globe. Be it Smriti Mandhana or Harmanpreet Kaur there has been no dearth of talent in the past few years in the Indian team, especially in the batting department. And, the latest addition to the list of batting sensations of the Indian team is the 16-year-old Shafali Verma.

Shafali has been one of the best finds of Indian cricket so far and has been doing consistently well for the team since her debut. In the 18 T20 International matches she has played so far for the Indian team, she has aggregated 485 runs. And, has a strike rate of 146.96, two half-centuries, highest score of 73 and 48 fours to her name.

Shafali Verma smashed 47 runs off 34 balls, but one strange shot is trending

Putting her batting skills on display, at their unorthodox best in a match against Sri Lanka, she grabbed the eyeballs of the entire cricket community, by just one shot she played. En route to her 47 runs off 34 balls, she on the first ball of the 9th over, did something that hadn’t been seen or done before. Trying to get the maximum number of runs off a wide pitching delivery, she took a few steps away from her off stump, getting behind the stumps in the process, and smacked the ball to the boundary.

Her shot even amazed the commentators, who acclaimed it to be extraordinary. And, the wicketkeeper at that time was left crouching trying to stay away from her bat and save herself from getting hit. The clip of this shot spread like wildfire across the internet and started garnering thousands of views and comments of amazement and appreciation across different platforms.

Having walked in to open the innings along with Smriti Mandhana, chasing a target of 114 runs, set by the Sri Lankan team, she ensured that the team got off to a great start. With Mandhana getting dismissed in the 5th over with team score at 34 runs, she ensured that she continued the assault while paying due respect to the good balls. Her inning was instrumental in the victory that Team India eventually got, taking the team to the top position in its group.
