The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League may still be a good three months away but the euphoria is already starting to build-up with fans and cricket pundits taking up to social media to analyze each of the squads and also the picks from the recently held auction.  Kolkata Knight Riders will be one of the sides to watch out for in the upcoming auctions. That franchise had a great IPL auction where they shelled out a sum of Rs 27.15 Crore.

The star of the Auctions was undoubtedly Pat Cummins, whose services were roped in by KKR at a whopping sum of Rs 15.50 Crore. But, apart from Cummins, two other marquee buys that the Knight Riders’ think-tank made were of also managed to grab England’s  World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan [Rs 5.25 Crore] and the newest T20 sensation in the form of Tom Banton.

And, ever since Morgan has been bought by the Knight Riders, fans are debating as to who should lead the side in the upcoming edition: Dinesh Karthik or Eoin Morgan? KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan conducted a Q/A session on Wednesday when one of the fans asked him the same query; just that the candidate for captaincy was different.

The fan asked, When will @KKRiders make @RealShubmanGill the captain? And, just as expected, Shah Rukh, who is famous for his wit and humour, said this: “As soon as KKR makes you the Head Coach my friend.

And, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ social media team were quick to respond to SRK’s witty reply.

Speaking of Shubman Gill, the right-hander was bought the Knight Riders following his exploits in the 2018 ICC U-19 World Cup. Gill has since then played numerous crucial innings for the franchise in the past two seasons, and the precociously talented batsman is tipped to be the future of the franchise. In 27 IPL games across two seasons, Gill has scored 499 runs at an average of 33.26 and at a strike-rate of 133.36 with the help of four half-centuries.

And, with another precociously talented Tom Banton a part of the set-up, fans are salivating at the prospect of watching the duo open the innings for KKR in the upcoming season. Just that, they’’ have to wait for some time before they see Gill captaining Kolkata Knight Riders.
