Delhi-born Virat Kohli has been shouldering the leadership mantle of Indian cricket in all the formats for almost a couple of years now. Nevertheless, at times, his style of captaincy has come under the scanner. Even as there’s absolutely no doubt about his potential with the willow, many experts reckon that the 30-year-old is still learning the tricks and trade of expertly captaining a team.

He is now scheduled to lead India in the four-match Test series against Australia, which will start a couple of days later at Adelaide Oval. In the meantime, former Pakistani all-round cricketer Shahid Afridi reckons Kohli should take a leaf out of Captain Cool MS Dhoni’s book.

Virat loves to face the challenges

“As a captain, Virat needs to win a series abroad. I keep saying that how Dhoni has changed the course of Indian cricket as a captain and as a player, it’s the perfect example for Virat to follow,” Afridi was quoted as saying in India Today.

Afridi, who led the Pakhtoons to the final of the T10 League against Northern Warriors, lauded Virat for the latter’s fearless approach towards challenges. “He takes the responsibility upon himself and it seems like he loves to face the challenges ahead,” the veteran remarked.

In the meantime, Dhoni’s recent form, especially with the bat, hasn’t been impressive by any means, albeit his keeping has been top notch, to say the least. Subsequently, questions, surrounding his participation in the World Cup next year in England and Wales, have also been doing the rounds. Dhoni was also left out of the T20 series against Windies and Australia respectively.

However, Afridi didn’t mince any words in saying that Dhoni should definitely grace his presence in the upcoming multi-nation event. “If Dhoni is fit and willing to play, he should definitely be in the Indian squad for the World Cup,” the 38-year-old added.
