Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi will be seen backing a good cause as the cricketer has been delegated as the ambassador for the 5th edition of the Blind World Cup. The legendary all-rounder is one of the most respected Pakistani cricketers to have played the game of cricket.

The statement was released by the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) on Friday.

“Afridi is not only an icon in the arena of cricket across the globe but also a philanthropist and a role model in social works,” the Dawn quoted said PBCC chairman Syed Sultan Shah as saying.

The chairman also believes that the involvement and presence of an influential cricketer like Afridi will take blind cricket to a whole new level and promote the sport. Shah also said that the tournament is scheduled to take place in January 2018 in the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan and will be hosted by the PBCC.

The PBCC has also revealed its plans of organizing a few league matches and the final in Pakistan. Out of the nine members of the World Blind Cricket Limited who will participate in the tournament only four of them have agreed to play in Pakistan.

Widely known as “Boom Boom”, the 37-year-old Afridi decided to hang his boots from the game of cricket last month as he announced his retirement. The esteemed and glorious career of the cricketer will not only remembered by Pakistan but the whole cricketing world.

Afridi’s career is mainly defined by his performance in the One-Day Internationals as he featured in 398 ODI’S scoring 8064 runs with a highest score of 124. He also has a mammoth tally of 395 wickets which explains why he has been one of the best all-rounders in the game of cricket. His Test career has not been as bright as his ODI career as he played only 27 Tests throughout his time. The big-hitting batsman managed to score 1176 runs in the longest format of the game with a highest score of 156 and 48 wickets. He also has a fair amount of experience in T20 Internationals playing 98 matches where he scored 1405 runs taking 97 wickets.
