Shahid Afridi eyes power-hitting coach position with Pakistan team

Shahid Afridi has been recently associated with the Pakistan coaching setup as the board has introduced new support roles. Power hitting is one of the attributes that has naturally been Afridi’s strengths and has always gone after the bowling. The 44-year-old all-rounder has represented Pakistan in 27 Tests, 398 ODIs, and 99 T20 internationals and he captained the side for a brief period as well.

Afridi came into the international scene first with his power-hitting skills at a very young age and his strong built benefitted it. The Pakistan cricket board chairman Ramiz Raja has been making a lot of interesting moves and these new support roles could definitely benefit Pakistan in the longer run. Afridi is one of the most followed cricketers going around in the world circuit and he opened up on taking the position of power-hitting coach.

Nobody has approached: Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi has cleared the air on him becoming the new power-hitting coach for Pakistan and noted that he hasn’t been approached yet for the role. Afridi is definitely the best candidate to take up the job and he hasn’t had many conflicts with the current Pakistan board as well.

“Nobody has approached me for the role of power-hitting coach. I will let you know if someone gets in touch with me,” Shahid Afridi told to Media in Karachi

Shahid Afridi had already announced that he will be playing this PSL season and he is also set to be playing for the Quetta Gladiators which will be his fourth PSL team. Quetta Gladiators won the tournament in 2019 and they have got a lot of talent in the wings that will be helped along by the experience of Shahid Afridi. He also opined on Sarfaraz Ahmed who will be captaining the side in the upcoming PSL season.

“I will try to encourage him, he gets emotional during the field, I will try to keep him cool and support him on the field. He has been playing very well,” he added
