Former Pakistan cricketer and veteran batter Shahid Afridi on June 28 was fined by the Motorway police for speeding while driving to Karachi from Lahore. The former batter paid the monetary penalty of Rs 1,500 for violating the traffic rules and praised the Motorway police for not favoring him because he is a sports celebrity.
Afridi stated that ‘ law is equal for everyone,’ as he later took selfies with the police personnel. Since taking his retirement from the international arena, Afridi can be seen participating in several panel discussions and is very active on social media sites to give his views on several matters.
Afridi made his debut in 1996 against Kenya
The star all-rounder made his international debut against Kenya in 1996 and played his last international match against West Indies in 2018. Afridi made several vital contributions to the Men in Green throughout his career and played a key role in making Pakistan T20 champions in 2009.
Talking about his numbers, the right-handed batter played 27 Test matches and amassed 1,716 runs. However, he was more dangerous in the white-ball format. The veteran batter played 98 ODIs and stroked 8064 runs. In T20Is, he scored 1,416 runs in 99 matches. During his international career, Afridi took 48 wickets in Tests, 395 in ODIs, and 98 in T20s.
Afridi has also played in the first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2008. Playing for Deccan Chargers, he took nine wickets and scored 81 runs in ten matches. He played his last IPL match against Chennai Super Kings, but could not do much with both bat and ball.
Afridi smashed the fastest ODI century in only his second appearance against Sri Lanka in 1996, he smashed his way to a 37-ball century. For more than 17 years, it remained the fastest century in the ODI format before New Zealand batter Corey Anderson broke the record in January 2014. He holds a ton of experience and has represented several franchises and clubs across the world.
