Pakistan T20I skipper Shahid Afridi today stated that all talks about his retirement are baseless and that he just wants to focus on the Asia Cup T20 that is underway in Bangladesh at the moment. His response comes in after reports had appeared in a large section of media early this week that said Afridi will consider his decision to retire from international cricket following the World T20 in India. He was quoted saying that he has pressure from family and friends and that most believe he still has enough fire in him to continue representing Pakistan at the highest level.

Afridi who has announced and revoked his retirement a couple of times tweeted about it and with that tried to clarify his stand.

He wrote ‘All talks about my retirement are baseless. I havent taken anyones advice yet. Focusing on the Asia cup and then will decide later.’

It’s interesting since he had expressed his desire to call it a day from international cricket once he hung up his boots from ODI cricket following the ICC World Cup in 2015. Considering the fact that he is still going great guns, looks fit and is in prime form and no immediate talent can be seen in the Pakistan ranks good enough to replace the veteran, he might as well continue to represent and lead his national side in the shortest format of the game even after the World T20 2016.
