It is not every day that someone like Shaiman Anwar gets a call-up to a T20 League of global repute. In fact, such is the impact of Anwar’s draft into the Global T20 League in Canada that he is now expected to rub shoulders with perhaps the best in the business. With the League having attracted several internationally reputd players such as David Warner and Steve Smith, Anwar is certain to have the cricketing experience of a lifetime.

Speaking about the same, Anwar said that he was initally surprised to have been drafted into the Edmonton Royals for the competition. He also added that he believed his chances of playing ina  big T20 league was over since he was nearing the age of 40.

“I was surprised for sure,” he said. “One of my friends called me and told me that I was selected in the new T20 league in Canada and I really didn’t believe it. But I then looked on the internet and it was true. I was really surprised because I thought my chances of playing in a big T20 league was over especially when I am nearly 40. But it’s fantastic news for me.”

Anwar is particularly keen on playing alongside former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi who will be captaining the Royals.“Everyone in the world knows that he’s a famous player. He is a Pakistan legend and especially in the T20 he’s an exceptional player,” he said.

Anwar will also be playing alongside several other international players such as Chris Lynn, Luke Ronchi, Mohammad Irfan and Wayne Parnell, all of whom have done quite well for themselves on the international arena.
