Star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is finally back on the field after a little gap. Shakib was named the Test skipper after six years for the series against Sri Lanka earlier this month. The southpaw had to miss the series due to a back injury. Furthermore, Shakib also missed the T20I series against the Lankans whilst nursing the injury. While he was expected to be back for the second Test against the island nation, it took him much longer to get back on the field. The Bangladesh team suffered humiliating losses against Sri Lanka is the Test and T20I series in his absence.

It will indeed be heartening for the selectors to know that he is back in the nets ahead of the Nidahas Trophy.

Shakib Al Hasan looking to feature in the upcoming, T20I tri-series

The Nidahas Trophy is an upcoming T20I tri-series where Srilanka will take on India and Bangladesh at their home. The tournament will be played to celebrate Sri Lanka’s 70th year of independence. The three subcontinent teams will fight each other in the series to get their hands on the trophy. Shakib Al Hasan is practicing hard to get back on the field for this series.

Shakib practiced at the BCB Academy on Thursday and spent 1.5 hours at the gym. Before leaving the stadium, he said “Now I am in a better position. But the doctors can say about it better.” Though Shakib started the fitness training, he can’t take the bat-ball in hand at the moment. He has to wait for some days more to return to full training.

BCB’s doctor Debashish Chowdhury said: “He can start bowling after some days. But it is still a question when he can start batting. He is recovering fast and he can start batting after 3-4 days maybe. If everything remains alright, we can expect to see him in the Nidahas Trophy.”

The Nidahas Trophy will begin on 6th March in Sri Lanka where the hosts will take on India in the opening encounter. All the matches will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and each team will play four games each before the finals.
