The Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka has seen many historical matches for Bangladesh in the recent past and yet again it witnessed a special occasion where the Tigers managed to overhaul the Australians in a riveting contest for the first time in the whites. To make the occasion even more special, the stadium saw the presence of Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina which buoyed the confidence of Shakib Al Hasan and the Bangladeshis even more.

Hasina showed up just in the nick of time to attend the moment when Bangladesh took the final wicket of Josh Hazlewood to win the match by 20 runs. After the match, Man of the match Shakib Al Hasan thanked the Bangladeshi Prime Minister for providing support and inspiration to the team. She personally congratulated the players following the game.

“She is always there to support us. She enjoys cricket. She told us that she was supposed to come for the game [Tuesday] but was busy with work. Such support from the Prime Minister and people of the country inspires us a lot. It is very important for the team. Knowing that we are backed by the whole country gives us the confidence to fight on the field,” quoted Shakib according to Dhaka Tribune.

Shakib, Tamim heroes for Bangladesh

This is not the solitary occasion where PM Sheikh Hasina rushed to the stadium to be with the Bangladesh cricketers during the winning moments. During foreign assignments, Sheikh Hasina ensures to reach out to the cricketers over the phone post victory.

Shakib and Tamim Iqbal scripted one of the biggest win in Bangladesh‘s cricketing history as the duo forged an important partnership when the chips were down to post a competitive total. Shakib scored a priceless 84 and clinched a 10 wicket haul in the match to become only the second player in Test matches to score a 50 and claim 10 wickets in the match after Richard Hadlee.
