Shane Warne breaks silence on differences of opinion with Sachin Tendulkar
Tendulkar declined to comment when he was asked for the same.
The respect which the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and spin king Shane Warne possess for each other is unprecedented and is well documented. However, Warne has disseminated that they had their conflict of opinion on organising the exhibition matches in the United States back in 2015.
Warne has stated in his recently released autobiography âNo Spinâ that a concept that he and Tendulkar had come up with and subsequently thought to make it an annual affair, failed to get conducted since both of them had their differences because of management. However, Tendulkar declined to comment when he was asked for the same.
The All Stars exhibition matches took place in Los Angeles, New York, and Houston in the year 2015 with some of the greatest and the most prominent players taking part like Glenn McGrath, Shoaib Akhtar, Jacques Kallis, Moin Khan, and Shaun Pollock.
The heart of the matter
Warne had revealed that Tendulkar had taken care of all the expenses, however, he was not pleased with the people that the Indian batting icon had brought on board in order to manage the event. Warne wrote in his book âSachin had this guy here, Sanjay, who was very much a mentor and a business advisor. I explained my concept and gave them a slideshow. They loved it and flew a guy named Ben Sturner, who is a CEO of a sports management company from America. Sachin was adamant that his team of people run the whole thing.â
He went on to write further âWell, itâs my idea. I know I can get the best players and Iâm prepared to go 50-50 with you. I suggest we pay experienced people to organise it and appoint two from each of our camps.â In reply to that Sachin remained ingrained that he wanted to have Sanjay and Ben. Warne was two minds about it but remained calm and sure about them being together and making it work.
In the aspect of that, the 49-year old said âThe organisation was not as it could, or could have been, which was a real shame. They were decent guys but the event got too big for them.â Warne wrote in his autobiography as quoted by News18.
âThe truth is, if you ask me, that they didnât do the pitch/ground deal quite well and fell foul of that old line of the devil being in the contract. This, along with small and important aspect of a top-level eventâŚ..was all very last minute and not slick as I wanted,â Warne pointed out the Indian way of keeping each and everything to do for the last minute.
âI think itâs because Indians leave everything so late, which they can make work at home, but itâs not easy to pull off in someone elseâs country. Each day felt like it was flying by the seat of their pants and I didnât like that at all.â
