Australia have never lost a Test series against India at home. However, they are already staring at one as they have slumped in the opening match against Virat Kohli and Co at Adelaide Oval by 31 runs. Their bowlers were impressive in patches, but couldn’t quite maintain the pressure on the Indian batsman and the same goes for the bowlers, who tried their hearts out, as well.

In India’s first innings, the hosts nipped out three Indian wickets for 19 runs, but Cheteshwar Pujara turned out to be a thorn in their flesh as the right-hander scored a superlative century that guided India to 250 runs. Travis Head churned out 72 runs, however, the other batters couldn’t quite step up and the Aussies ended up conceding a slender, yet vital lead of 15 runs.

Australia thrashed in Adelaide

Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane notched a couple of useful half-centuries to help India set a target of 323 runs for Australia to chase down. During the run-chase, Shaun Marsh put his head down to score 60 runs, but the Indian bowlers kept chipping in with wickets. Nevertheless, the Australian lower order turned up with some impressive shows and made Indian sweat for the win.

Unfortunately, their efforts went in vain. The second Test is scheduled to start on Friday, December 14 and former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne has called for the inclusion of Marcus Stoinis and backed his comments saying that the Aussies are in requisite of an extra bowler and also the fact that he is a genuine all-round cricketer.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “I would be very disappointed if Marcus Stoinis doesn’t play the next test in Perth. Aust need the extra bowler and all round skills of Stoinis plus the energy & swagger he brings to the table – this would rub of on the team !”
