Even though the ICC World Cup is scheduled earlier, it seems former cricketers from Australia and England are already locking horns over the Ashes rivalry that follows the showpiece event in England. Former Three Lions captain Michael Vaughan is often found passing his verdict on Australia’s current form and that the Kangaroos would struggle even with the return of the likes of Steve Smith and David Warner.

The hosts themselves are placed much better than the rivals in ODI cricket at the moment and a lot of experts are predicting them to win their maiden title this year. Former Australia spin wizard Shane Warne was seen taking to Twitter to speak about his own team. He told Vaughan that Australia can still win the WC despite their ordinary form though adding that Aaron Finch’s men need to pick the right players and play a brave brand of cricket.

He said the Australians were playing more in a conservative manner at the moment and to win the WC, one needs a mix of power, X-factor and cricket smart players.

Both Australia and England lost their latest games

Both Warne and Vaughan’s countries were though humbled in their last ODI. While Australia lost their first of the five-match series against India in Hyderabad by 6 wickets, England were blown away by Chris Gayle’s thunderous batting in the final ODI against the Windies – both on Saturday.

Here is Warne’s tweet

Australia did well to win the T20I series against India 2-0 but they found Virat Kohli’s men difficult to contain in the first ODI despite making some early inroads after scoring 236 in 50 overs. India’s bowlers did well to restrict the visitors to 236 and it was an undefeated 141-run partnership between MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav that guided the hosts to a victory.

England, led by Eoin Morgan, though had a worse game against the Caribbeans as they were all out for a paltry 113 and Gayle then slammed a 27-ball 77 to win the game for his side inside 13 overs. England are ranked first in ICC’s ODI rankings while Australia are at No.6 position. The two traditional rivals will meet each other in the World Cup on June 25, at Lord’s.
