Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers have been in great form right through the ongoing IPL season and have been coming up with knocks one better than the other, and astonishing the viewers and cricketers alike. The duo has been key to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s success in the season and the team looks strong to win their first IPL title.

Australian legend Shane Warne has rated Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli better than his RCB teammate AB de Villiers.

In a chat to theringsideview.com Warne said, “De Villiers is a 360-degree player. He plays reverses, the lapses and all those sorts of things but hasn’t really played too many of ‘those’ innings Virat Kohli has played.”

As per Warne, de Villiers tries too much and sometimes outsmarts himself in doing so. “He outsmarts himself too much and tries too many unbelievable shots.”

He also added that the consistency with proper cricketing shots even in the shortest format of the game is what makes Virat special. “Even the innings the other day (113 against King XI Punjab), there wasn’t one reverse shot. There was nothing funky, there were just cricket shots. It needs an amazing amount of skill to do that consistently in T20 cricket. Kohli’s determination and finding a way during crunch games just puts him ahead of de Villiers.” the former Rajasthan Royals’ skipper added.

Talking about the RCB skipper’s records and his capabilities in crunch games, Warne said, “If you look at their records, Virat Kohli has done it, he has an average of more than 100 when chasing score, that’s just insane to see that sort of numbers.”

“There is not much between them. But I think Virat Kohli just pips him.” said Shane Warne

Virat Kohli is 81-runs away from completing 1000 runs in IPL this season. With RCB in the finals, he will have the best opportunity to try and achieve the feat.
