Shane Warne recollects how an anonymous person threatened him into supporting Chelsea FC

Former Australian cricketer Shane Warne is an avid follower of Chelsea FC in the English Premier League and keeps visiting their home ground, the Stamford Bridge whenever there’s a big game. Manchester United are set to visit the Blues in London and over the years, this clash has provided many iconic memories.

The legendary wrist spinner is currently in London to witness this clash which will kick-off on Saturday and talking to BBC, he revealed an interesting story on how he started supporting Chelsea. He apparently was threatened by an anonymous person who wore a Chelsea outfit and asked him which club he supports with a knife in his hand.

Warne, at gunpoint, said he supports Chelsea and ever since he apparently picked up no courage to support another club. “I had caught the train from Bristol to London and was on the tube when some guy with a Chelsea scarf and Chelsea stuff all over him came up to me and said ‘who do you support?’.

“I looked at him and in his hand he had a big knife – a bit like the one Paul Hogan had in Crocodile Dundee when he says ‘that’s a knife’. So I said I’ll support Chelsea. And ever since then, I have been too scared to support anyone else,” Warne said.

Eden Hazard is my favourite

The 49-year-old has also revealed that his favourite Blues player used to be close friend Andriy Shevchenko. Shevchenko was one of the greatest strikers of his generation and also received the most elite prize in football, the Ballon d’Or in 2004.

Talking about his favourite players among the current crop of Chelsea players, Warne picked the Belgian maestro Eden Hazard. The 27-year-old has been in outrageous form and is certainly on par with the biggest names in world football. “Like most Chelsea fans now, I would say Hazard is my favourite. He is an absolute gun and he is the star,” he revealed.
