Shane Watson has successfully revived his career as a professional T20 cricketer with his performance for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018. He was their overseas all-rounder and the team management used him really well to get the best possible results. Watson hit a hundred and made the final his own ensuring it was CSK who lifted their third title. Ever since he has been roped in by a T10 league team and now has retained his contract with the Sydney Thunder.

The Big Bash League franchise signed a deal with Watson for another two years and he is extremely excited to continue the association. The all-rounder said that his contribution in the previous edition of the BBL, Pakistan Super League (PSL) as well as the IPL has ensured he still gets to play a few more years with the Thunder.

Excited to get a few more years with Thunder

“It’s exciting to be able to get a few more years with the Thunder,” said Watson. “It was nice to be able to contribute last season as well as throughout the PSL (Pakistan Super League) and IPL.

“Part of Sydney Thunder is developing the next generation of Australian cricketers. We’ve got a lot of young talent, and the squad will be younger next season,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia.

He is also looking forward to playing NSW Premier Cricket which will help him gel well with the team.

“The beauty of playing (NSW Premier Cricket) means I can continue to help out and get to know the guys before the week leading into the first game,” Watson said.

Thunder poach a player from Sixers

Thunder as a part of their bid to build up the team has also roped in Daniel Sams who represented their derby team Sydney Sixers previously. Sams is looking forward to the season and wants to take Thunder to the final and lift the trophy as well.

“The Thunder Academy was really enjoyable and I took a few new things away from it. It was really valuable for me,” Sams said.

“I’ve gained a lot of confidence. I’m looking forward to getting back out there and being successful, hopefully getting Thunder to the finals and winning a trophy,” he stated.
