Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Shane Watson has been reprimanded for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct by “using offensive language” during an Indian Premier League match against Delhi Daredevils.
The IPL statement said – “In the VIVO IPL match in Raipur last evening, Shane Watson of Royal Challengers Bangalore was reprimanded by the Match Referee for using language or a gesture which is deemed obscene, offensive or insulting during a match.”
“Mr. Watson admitted to the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.4 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
Watson’s argumentative demeanour on the field has landed him in trouble in the past too. Playing for Australia, the burly all-rounder has had quite a few run-ins. The list of players he has had confrontations include his current teammates Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli.
Royal Challengers Bangalore grabbed a place in the playoffs after they beat Delhi Daredevils last night. Inspired by Virat Kohli’s 10th IPL half-century, the RCB side chased the 139 runs target set by DD batting first. It was a do-or-die clash for both the teams. Delhi Daredevils could not do anything extraordinary on the tough Raipur batting track and managed a functional total of 138/8 in 20 overs. The chase happened in the usual style for RCB. Kohli yet carried the responsibility of chasing down the target and finished the game in style with six wickets in hand.
