Shane Watson’s preparation to the World T20 has been severely jolted following an injury in the ongoing PSL. While the 34-year-old all-rounder looks set to miss the remainder of the tournament, he could possibly miss the World T20 in India as well.

Shane Watson injured himself while bowling for Islamabad United in their 7 wicket win over Peshawar Zalmi. He expressed his disappointment via a video through the official twitter account of Islamabad United.

Speaking in the video, a disappointed Shane Watson said, “I’ve unfortunately made this video because I injured myself last night bowling, so disappointingly I’m going to have to head home back to Australia to get assessed with the medical people at Cricket Australia to try and get right for the Twenty20 World Cup,” Watson said. Watson also thanked his PSL franchise.

“Thanks very much to my franchise, Islamabad, I’ve had a hell of a lot of fun getting to know all the local players and playing in the PSL, which is a great tournament.” Watson’s injury is a huge blow to Australia’s World Twenty20 plans as the selectors are already dealing with the fitness issues of all-rounder James Faulkner, former T20 captain Aaron Finch and paceman Nathan Coulter-Nile.”

Watson has been in devastating form ever since his exploits in the Big Bash League in January. He was a key part of the Sydney Thunder as they made their way to their first ever BBL title. He captained the side in the 3rd and final T20 at the Sydney Cricket Ground against India where he made history by scoring a massive 124. Chief selector Rod Marsh and the Australian fans will certainly be hoping that Watson recovers in time to take part in the World T20. The tournament is expected to begin on the 8th of March.
