Veteran Australia all-rounder Shane Watson has stated that he will take a decision on his international career’s future after the conclusion of World Twenty 20 tournament being held in India.

“There’s no doubt I’ll have a bit of time to think about it (international retirement) after the T20 World Cup. I’ll reassess from there,” Watson told cricket.com.au on Wednesday.

The decision obviously rests upon him but he has a golden opportunity to bow out of the international arena by winning the World T20 which happens to be the only global trophy that has eluded Australia till now.

“There’s no doubt to win the T20 World Cup, we came very close in 2010 making the final, so that certainly would be an incredible thing to be a part of,” he said.

Watson had earlier received a surprise call-back to the Australia T20I set-up during the home series against India back in the month of January. However, he was overlooked for the preceding One-Day International (ODI) series. The 34-year-old had admitted that he was “pleasantly surprised” when he got the call-up for Australia’s T20I side.

“At this point in time I’m still just living the dream with the cricket that I’m able to play and the teams I’m able to play in. I’m not sure where that’s going to take me in the short term. At the moment I’m loving the opportunity of being back in the Australian squad and hopefully we can win the T20 World Cup.”

Watson added they have given themselves the best chance of winning the trophy because of the talented squad that is available to them.

“We’ve got a bit of improvement to go and more consistency in how we’re playing to give ourselves that chance, but we’ve got the talented squad here to be able to give ourselves the best chance,” he said.
