Mumbai pacer Shardul Thakur picked up an injury in the Ranji Trophy fixture against Tripura in the second session of the first day’s play. Tailender Abhijit Sarkar hit a shot and Shardu went for the catch but looked in total discomfort. As per reports, the paceman has been advised rest for a week and should be fit for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.

It is a very crucial blow to the Mumbai team as this is a must-win game for them and Shardul is a key member of the domestic giants. Though, he didn’t have a good first inning with the ball and went wicket-less, when the opposition was bowled out for 195 runs. His team would surely miss him in the last part of the game when they come out to bowl again.

Likely to be out for a week

Shardul made his debut for the Men in Blue in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, earlier this year. He was in the squad for the three-match ODI series against the Kiwis but didn’t get a game. The 26-year-old has been advised a week’s rest to ensure the shoulder injury isn’t aggravated and he would be thriving to take the field after being fully fit and ready.

As of now, his selection in the limited overs series against Sri Lanka next month looks certain because the hosts would want their senior players to take a breather before the tough South Africa tour.

The Mumbai team Manager Ganesh Iyer spoke about the injury and he mentioned the fact that all medications have been sought. He also stated that the injury is not very serious but he will not take part in the game anymore.

“The medical advice has been sought and as of now, the injury doesn’t look serious,” said Iyer as quoted by Sportstar.
