The last thing that a fast bowler would want is to be smashed for a six. And, there is more insult added when the six has been hit by a man who is mainly in the side for his bowling skills. And, there is even more insult to injury that is waiting when you are the No.1 pacer in the world.

The 68th over of the Indian innings witnessed a special shot from the willow of Shardul Thakur. Coming into this Test match, Shardul Thakur had scored just 4 runs in his entire Test career. But then, he had some special treatment reserved for Australia’s premier strike bowler. Pat Cummins bowled a short delivery, probably in a bid to intimidate the new batsman.

But then, Shardul was up to the task. The right-hander swiveled onto the backfoot and just pulled Cummins over the ropes with ease. It was a shot from a batsman who was probably telling the bowler that he would treat fire with fire. And of course, Twitter just could not keep quiet.

Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar keep India afloat

The fourth and final Test is poised for an exciting finish. India were reduced to 186/6 at one stage and were in danger of conceding a big lead to the Australians. But then, debutant Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur were involved in a counter-attacking 123-run partnership to keep Australia on the backfoot.

Earlier in the day, Cheteshwar Pujara was the first man to depart. The veteran right-hander nicked Josh Hazlewood into the hands of Tim Paine behind the stumps. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane soon followed suit, as he edged Mitchell Starc to Matthew Wade at slip. Mayank Agarwal and Rishabh Pant too, contributed some useful runs to the Indian total. While Agarwal was dismissed for 38, Pant departed after a breezy 23.

The fourth and final Test at The Gabba holds all the answers for the tantalizingly poised Test series. The Test series between the two sides is currently locked at 1-1. While Australia triumphed at Adelaide in the first Test, India returned came back strongly at Melbourne in the second rubber. The third Test in Sydney ended in a draw, with the Indian willow wielders stepping up to the task. And, whichever side manages to come out on top in this Test match, will walk away with the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
