It has been eight days since Shashank Manohar stepped down as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to personal reasons. But requests from the ICC board have provoked Manohar to postpone his resignation and continue to hold the post. Having been country’s top cricket administrator the former BCCI president has served the ICC for eight months.

The reason for his resignation was unclear to all as the 59-year-old mailed his resignation to the ICC CEO Dave Richardson ending his tenure with the ICC. But according to Manohar he has been moved by the trust all the board members have put in him requesting him to continue his service.

Manohar stated in a press release: “I respect the sentiments expressed by the Directors and the confidence they have reposed in me. In the light of this, and although my decision to depart due to personal reasons has not changed, I am willing to continue as Chairman till the responsibility as per the resolution is complete.”

He had last year resigned from the BCCI to become the first independent chairman of the ICC. Manohar further stated that he wants to fulfill his duty of working for the ICC and see to it that everything runs smoothly.

“I have duty to work with my colleagues to enable a smooth transition and continue our work on the governance of the ICC.”

Shashank, after the demise of Jagmohan Dalmiya in 2015 had taken over as BCCI’s president. But his stepping down from the post did not go down well with the BCCI as the board felt that his personal ambitions to head the ICC led to such a decision.

A lawyer by profession had suspended Lalit Modi, former chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to the latter’s involvement in corrupt activities. He was also the president of Vidarbha Cricket Association before being the president of the BCCI.
