Sheffield Shield 2019-20: Australian batsman continues to run even after the ball reaches boundary

The 2019-20 season of the Sheffield Shield has kicked off a couple of days back. In this first week of action, there are three games that are being played in this Australian domestic tournament. While Victoria is up against South Australia in the first game, it is Queensland vs New South Wales and Western Australia vs Tasmania in the other two matches. In these two days of action, several headlines have already been made.
David Warner, who has struggled throughout the Test series in England, seems to have found his touchback. The left-hander, after failing to put the bat on the ball during the Ashes 2019, returned with a wonderful century. He scored 125 runs for New South Wales before Marnus Labuschagne trapped him LBW. However, in the same game, another interesting occurring took place. Steve Smith, the hero for Australia in the Ashes 2019, bagged a fifth ball duck. Apart from all this, the funniest incident in this game was that of the batsman running even after he hit the ball for a boundary.
When the phrase ‘save your legs’ means nothing to you
After edging a ball through the slips to the boundary, a batsman kept running relentlessly. Even though he clearly knew that the ball would touch the ropes, he absolutely didn’t care. The Australian batsman kept running and completed two more runs after that. What was more interesting was that his batting partner stood firm at one end and didn’t move an inch which made the entire situation that much more hilarious. The crowd, as well as the commentators, found this incident quite funny and couldn’t control their laughter.
“You can’t get any more than four,” remarked one of the commentators while the other said: “you just ran eight”. “Once it goes over the rope.. game over,” said one of the commentators again while trying to remind the batsman about the rules of the game. This entire incident turned out to be so entertaining and unusual that Cricket Australia decided to share the video on its social media platforms. “When the phrase ‘save your legs’ means nothing to you,” they wrote.
