Indian and Punjab Kings’ batter Shikhar Dhawan on April 25 (Monday) bagged another record to his name. The left-handed batter became only the third Indian batter to pile up 9000 runs in the history of T20 cricket. He achieved the landmark when he scored the 11th run of his innings against Chennai Sper Kings (CSK) during the group stage match of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

It must be noted that Dhawan has now joined Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. In the overall list, the veteran opener has also joined another two left-handed batters on the list including universe boss Chris Gayle and Australian opener David Warner.

Shikhar Dhawan has been a consistent performer in IPL

The left-handed batter has scored runs for his national side whenever he was given an opportunity. At first, the left-handed batter was the permanent opener for the Men in Blue. However, he has been in and out of the national team a few times.

However, that has not stopped Dhawan from piling up runs in IPL. The left-handed opener has been excellent with the bat in the last two seasons of the Indian Premier League, making more than 400 runs in both seasons. Even in IPL 2022, Dhawan has already scored 214 runs from the first seven matches and is going strong in tonight’s encounter as well.

In another record, the left-handed batter became the second batter to complete 6000 runs in the IPL. He required just two runs to achieve the landmark before the game against the Yellow Army. Dhawan has now joined former RCB skipper Virat Kohli in the elite list in the T20 tournament.

Talking about Dhawan numbers in T20I, the 36-year-old has played a total of 68 matches for India and has amassed 1759 runs at an average of 27.92. The left-handed batter plays at a decent strike rate of 126.36 and has stroked 11 half-centuries for the Men in Blue.  Dhawan has also represented India in 149 ODIs and 34 Test matches as well.
