India opener Shikhar Dhawan was promoted from Grade C to the newly introduced Grade A+ by BCCI in the recently announced annual contract. The promotion coupled with the rise in payment for the players from the cricket board which eventually worked wonders for the left-hander. He received a massive hike of 1300 percent compared to the last year which made his fans happy. However, even Dhawan is delighted over the same reason and felt it was the acknowledgement from BCCI for his efforts.
Dhawan, after being dropped from the team last year, came back stunningly during Sri Lanka tour and has been in great touch ever since then. He was named Man of the Series during the Tests and the swashbuckling batsman has never looked back. Now he is the vital cog of the Indian batting line-up across all formats and has been more consistent. He was also the chief contributor in the recently concluded Nidahas Trophy which the Men in Blue won.
I did really well last season
Shikhar Dhawan, in an interview to NDTV, was happy that his efforts were recognised by BCCI and felt that he deserved the hike in his salary. “I did really well last season. I have been doing well for the Indian Team and playing all the three formats. That was the reason why BCCI promoted me from C to A+. I wasn’t thinking about how much I would get but was very happy when it came by way and thanked God as well,” he said.
Dhawan was over the moon with the fact that the Indian team did so well on South Africa tour and went on to win the limited overs leg against the hosts. “We played a very good cricket in South Africa. We were happy with the results. At the end of it, we won the ODI and the T20 series which no other Indian team has ever done and we are very proud of it as an unit,” Dhawan added.
The cricketer is now looking forward to the IPL where he will play for Sunrisers Hyderabad under the captaincy of David Warner.
