The poor run of the Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Shikhar Dhawan has been the topic of discussion in the past few days. Dhawan is going through a lean patch and has managed to score just 16 runs in the 3 IPL matches he has played so far.

He did not have a successful World T20 either prior to the IPL. With just 43 runs in 4 matches, Dhawan was dropped from the side for the semi-finals.

However, VVS Laxman, the mentor of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, does not think that the left-hander’s poor form is a matter of concern for the team. He believes in Dhawan’s match-winning ability and is confident that he will deliver the goods soon. He also added that it is the domestic players who need to need to put their hands up and perform.

“Shikhar’s form is not a worry for SRH team. He is a gifted player and when he plays well he finishes off the match. He is a match winning player,” quoted Laxman.

Laxman also spoke about David Warner, the skipper of the SRH franchise. He was all praise for the attacking opener who single-handedly took Sunrisers to their maiden win this season.

“Warner has been in fantastic form and he played many match-winning knocks, but other batsmen particularly domestic players coming in the middle order need to contribute more with the bats. If openers and middle orders managed to click then the team certainly enjoys comfortable position,” he said.

The batting of the Sunrisers has been disappointing this season so far. Except Warner, no other batsman has looked comfortable in the middle. But the bowling department has been in top notch form. Crediting the bowlers, Laxman said, “The bowlers have done well so far for SRH, particularly in the game against Mumbai Indians. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Bipul Sharma, Barinder Sran all did well against Mumbai Indians and it’s really great to have a first win.”

VVS was spot on to say how Mustafizur Rahman has been a good addition to the side. “He is exceptionally talented, he has a plenty of variation with new and old ball and more important he is very consistent,” quoted the legendary Indian batsman.

Sunrisers finished at the sixth spot in the last two editions of IPL and are confident to put up an improved show this time around.
