The Rawalpindi Express, Shoaib Akhtar, stated that Mohammad Hafeez would hold the key against the England despite his sluggish form with the bat. England and Pakistan are currently fighting it out for a place in finals of the coveted tournament by the name of ICC Champions Trophy.

Mohammad Hafeez has been an integral part of the Pakistan batting line up in coloured clothing for many a year now. His off-spinners has also been crucial for Pakistan’s success in dry surfaces. Since making his debut 2003, he has scored as many as 5788 in 188 games for the country and picked up 133 wickets in ODIs until now.

However, the 36-year old, in the twilight of his career, has been struggling to create an impact in the ongoing Champions Trophy. In the three outings in the tournament, Hafeez could only manage 60 runs. Shahid Afridi recently lambasted the senior players in the Pakistan team for not taking enough responsibility, hinting at Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez.

Shoaib Akhtar took to Twitter to express his thoughts in the Pakistan batting lineup. He believes Mohammad Hafeez performance in the semi-finals would remain crucial for Pakistan’s chances in the semi-finals. However, he also cited out that Pakistan should look at the future and stop depending on the likes of Malik and Hafeez. Akhtar also advised that Shoaib Malik should look to come in at number three and Hafeez should come in later in the order.

“Hafeez will be useful with da ball against Eng But I agree with you guys now we should plan our future with young guns after champs trophy. Easy chase made it looked difficult but glad Pak team reached the semi-final. Need more depth in their batting by sending Malik at 3 & Hafeez later. ” said Shoaib Akhtar in his tweet. Currently, Pakistan has put England into bat after Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and expected to chase down England’s total.
