Pakistan cricket had a torrid time last month when they were thumped by arch-rivals India twice in the same tournament – Asia Cup. The media and fans tore the Men in Green apart for their insipid performance in the competition and it was also being said that their recent wins have all been fluke. Pakistan, however, came back strongly in the next series which they played against Australia, winning the Test series 1-0 and T20I series 3-0.

Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik, who is his country’s highest run-getter in T20Is, was ecstatic after his side won the final T20I against the Aussies by 33 runs in Dubai on Sunday to complete the whitewash. Pakistan are the best ranked T20 side in the world at the moment (134 points before winning the Australia series), taking some lead over the rest. Pakistan have lifted the world title in T20 once (in 2009) while they finished runners-up once (in 2007).

Pakistan have won 18 of their last 20 T20Is

Malik took a dig back at the media and critics on Sunday, after Pakistan won the series, saying in a tweet that he is proud of the whole team and every member despite questions being raised over its leadership, selection, combination, rotation, etc. He also gave the list of Pakistan’s performance in the last 20 matches, mentioning in the form of “Won” and “Lost” showing that the team has won 18 out of their last 20 matches at a staggering success rate of 90 per cent.

Pakistan have won all of their last 10 assignments in T20Is, including one-off games, two-match series, three-match series and triangular tournaments. Since 2016, the Asian powerhouse has beaten England, Windies, World XI, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Scotland, Zimbabwe and Australia. Against India, Pakistan played their last T20I in the World T20 in 2016 which they lost.

The two games that Pakistan have lost in their last 20 encounters have been against the World XI in Lahore in the Independence Cup last year and New Zealand in Wellington in January this year.
