Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri is the latest to react to Wriddhiman Saha facing a threat from a journalist and he noted the urgency to investigate the issue from BCCI’s end. Saha had posted a screenshot of his conversation with a journalist who had sent some disturbing messages to the veteran wicketkeeper. Saha was recently dropped from the Indian side for the upcoming home Tests against Sri Lanka as the selectors wanted to try out new faces.

Owing to Saha’s post, Virender Sehwag had also insisted on his support for Saha and used a lot of harsh words to describe the journalist who had sent the messages. Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh showed out his support as well asking for the journalist to be named and voted for the players to be protected by BCCI. Saha has played 40 Tests for India scoring 1353 runs at an average of 29.4 and is one of the best wicketkeepers India has ever produced in terms of his technique.

Find out who the person is in the interest of every cricketer: Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri noted that he was completed baffled by a journalist sending up threats and recognised that it has happened far too many times already. He added that the time has come for the BCCI to step in and protect the players from such kind threats and was worried about a team man like Saha. The Chetan Sharma-led selectors panel had informed the 37-year-old that he won’t be considered for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka alongside Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma.

“Shocking a player being threatened by a journo. Blatant position abuse. Something that’s happening too frequently with #TeamIndia. Time for the BCCI PREZ to dive in. Find out who the person is in the interest of every cricketer. This is serious coming from ultimate team man WS,”  Shastri captioned

Saha has opted not to play Ranji Trophy for the Bengal side this season and KS Bharat has been groomed by the Indian management in place of Saha considering the future of the side.
