Former Indian captain Virat Kohli, who has always supported and helped in the development of women’s cricket in India, has urged social media to show their support for the Women in Blue dor the upcoming Women’s World Cup 2022. India will play their first game on the 6th of March against their arch-rivals Pakistan at the Bay Oval in New Zealand. The Mithali Raj-led side has won both of their warm-up games against South Africa and West Indies and are looking better ahead of the big tournament.

However, they suffered a 1-4 defeat from the hands of New Zealand in the five-match ODI series and they have had to work really hard to end their losing streak in the format. The bowling department looks a little bit weaker still and the experienced Jhulan Goswami will have to do the majority of the damage. The short boundaries in New Zealand are expected to facilitate a lot of high scoring games and India will have to be aggressive in their batting approach as well.

India finished runners up in the previous edition of the Women’s World Cup in 2017 and was unfortunate to lose out in the finals to England in a close encounter. Most of the players from the previous edition have made it to this World Cup as well and the onus will be on Mithali Raj to take the side over the line in important games. Notably, India is yet to win a Women’s World Cup and this might well be their chance to break the jinx.

Here’s Virat Kohli’s special message for the fans on Twitter

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has also been a great servant of Indian cricket ever since his debut in international cricket and has brought a lot of glory to the country. His words are priceless and he showed his support for the India women’s side on social media with a special post on Twitter.

“No better time to cheer for the #WomenInBlue and show the strength of #HamaraBlueBandhan than this, ‘cause it’s time for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022! So set your alarms for 6.30 AM on Mar 6, 2022 & watch #PAKvIND on @StarSportsIndia & Disney+Hotstar | ICC #CWC22 #ad,” Virat Kohli captioned.
