Siddhesh Lad has been a prolific run-scorer for Mumbai at the first-class level and List A matches as well. Though Mumbai didn’t have the most overwhelming outings in the 2017-18 Ranji Season, Lad was one the silver linings in the dark clouds of their performances. He scored 652 runs at a stupendous average of 59.27 with a couple of centuries and three fifties to his name.

The 25-year old has also been outstanding in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well as he scored 373 runs in six matches with as many as three tons and emerged as the fifth highest run-scorer in the tournament. Recently, as per reports in News18, Dinesh Lad, the father of Siddhesh talked about the confidence he had over his son when he started playing the game.

“Rohit is like an elder brother”- Dinesh Lad

“He was a natural talent, every child is given a bat and ball when he is small. But the way he held the bat and the way his bat flow was, I knew that he was a born cricketer. From the age of 6, I started giving him special attention and always wanted to see him become a cricketer,” Lad mentioned.

The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently underway and Lad is also a part of the tournament. He has been roped in by the Mumbai Indians (MI) at his base price of INR 20 lakhs. Nevertheless, he hasn’t got a game just yet and his father understands the reasons behind the same. Meanwhile, he also hailed Rohit Sharma as the elder brother of Siddesh.

“Rohit is like an elder brother to Siddhesh, he keeps talking to him about the game and has also had a word with me. He spoke in the media also about giving a chance to Siddhesh. But I understand, it depends on the combinations he wants.

The Mumbai middle-order is also packed with the likes of Pandya, Pollard and Rohit himself. Suryakumar is also doing well as an opener but Siddhesh should see this as a learning experience and improve his game,” Dinesh Lad added.
